After a restorative bye week, the Farmingdale State College Rams return to action for a pivotal two-game series against the University of Tampa Spartans. This weekend has been marked on the Rams' calendar ever since their tough loss to Tampa in last year's AAU National Championship Game. Now, the wait is finally over. The Rams are eager for redemption.
Farmingdale enters the contest riding high after a commanding 9-2 victory over RPI, a result that solidified the Rams as the #2 ranked team in the Northeast region. Meanwhile, fate has scripted a compelling clash, as the Spartans arrive in Largo, Florida, ranked #2 in the Southeast.
Sean O’Donnell led the Rams' offense against RPI, reaching an impressive milestone by scoring his 100th point in a Rams uniform with a hat trick and two assists. Along with teammates Dylan Bridgwood and Chris Keller, their line contributed an outstanding 10 points for the evening. John Crowdell also continued his role as a key offensive force, tallying his team-leading 23rd point of the season.
On the other side, the Spartans are driven by captain Danny Griffin, who leads his squad with 18 points in 14 games. Between the pipes, Kyle Myer has been Tampa’s cornerstone, starting 10 of the team’s 16 games and carrying a .909 save percentage with a 2.82 goals-against average into this weekend’s matchup.
Game 1 of this anticipated series gets underway tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Clearwater Ice Arena in Largo, Florida. Both teams have their eyes on victory, in what is sure to be an exhilarating matchup.
